Ukrainian Roman Lavrynovych Appears in Court Over Starmer Arson Allegations

A Ukrainian national has appeared in court over allegations that he torched properties related to the Prime Minister, Keir Starmer.

Roman Lavrynovych, 21, of Sydenham, south London, is accused of three offences of arson with intent to endanger life. He appeared in custody at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday, 16th May 2025.

Arson with intent to endanger life or being reckless as to whether life would be endangered, otherwise known as aggravated arson, is an offence under sections 1(2) and 1(3) of the Criminal Damage Act 1971. The maximum sentence on conviction on indictment is life imprisonment.

The allegations are in relation to a car fire in Kentish Town on Thursday, 8th May; a residential fire in Islington on Sunday, 11th May; and a residential fire in Kentish Town on Monday, 12th May.

Appearing briefly before Senior District Judge Paul Goldspring this morning, Lavrynovych spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

Given the serious nature of the allegations, which can only be dealt with at the Crown Court, he was not required to enter a plea.

The 21-year-old was remanded in custody until his next hearing at the Central Criminal Court on Friday, 6th June 2025.

Bethan David, Head of the CPS Counter Terrorism Division, said: "The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are now active and that he has the right to a fair trial.

"It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings."
