Bishop's Stortford Man Drove Straight Home After Disqualification

A Bishop's Stortford man was caught behind the wheel just hours after being disqualified from driving.

Freddie Hopkinson, 39, of Hadham Road, appeared before Colchester Magistrates' Court on 9th April 2018, where he pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified.

The court heard how Hopkinson's vehicle was stopped by police on the A120 near Braintree on 21st February. The vehicle's number plate had caused an ANPR activation. Police enquiries revealed that Hopkinson had been disqualified from driving earlier that day. The original six month disqualification, also imposed by Colchester Magistrates' Court, was as a result of the "totting up" rules.

Hopkinson was disqualified for an additional 10 months and ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £85 towards prosecution costs and £85 victim surcharge.
