The son of former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has denied assaulting a man in an Oldham pub last June.
Arron Scholes, 19, is alleged to have laughed hysterically as he attacked Robert Kemper. It is claimed that Scholes took a photograph of Mr Kemper's bloodied face at the end of the incident.
Magistrates heard that Mr Kember was still unable to give a full account of the alleged assault, owing to the nature of the injuries he received.
Scholes, who plays as a striker for amateur club Royton Town, pleaded not guilty to the assault during a short hearing at Tameside Magistrates' Court yesterday.
He will stand trial at the same court on Monday, 18th March 2019.
The maximum penalty for assault, contrary to section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988, is six months imprisonment.
