Derbyshire Headbutt Police Officer: Misconduct Hearing Scheduled

The misconduct hearing of PC 14308 Mark Knights of Derbyshire Constabulary will take place at 10 am on Friday, 19th March 2021.

Knights, you might remember, was convicted of an unprovoked headbutt on a member of the public who dared to challenge his ego. The circumstances of the offence almost defy belief, so please do read our earlier article if you haven't done already.

He will answer an allegation that his conduct, namely his recent conviction for assault by beating, amounts to a breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour for "Discreditable Conduct", contrary to The Police (Conduct) Regulations 2012.

The hearing, at Derbyshire Constabulary Headquarters, Ripley, will be chaired by Chief Constable Chris Haward of Lincolnshire Police.

It was announced on Friday, despite the usual practice of giving at least two weeks' notice prior to a hearing taking place. Five workings days', as in this case, is the minimum notice permitted under the rules. The public will be able to access proceedings virtually via Microsoft Teams.

Further details in this notification on the Derbyshire Constabulary website.
