The retirement age for Magistrates has increased from 70 to 75 years old.
The Public Service Pensions and Judicial Offices Act 2022 received Royal Assent yesterday.
The new retirement age will apply to all Magistrates born on or after 10th March 1952.
The change also applies to Advisory Committee members, who will be able to continue in their positions until the end of their term or their 75th birthday, whichever comes first.
Those Magistrates who have recently retired on attaining the age of 70 can apply for reinstatement to the bench until their 75th birthday.
An application form for reinstatement can be found in Part 6 of the recently updated Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State’s Directions for Advisory Committees on Justices of the Peace.
