A prolific Warwickshire shoplifter has been sentenced to 9 months in prison for his latest bout of thievery.
Carl Pearson, 43, of Whitefriars Drive, Rugby, admitted fourteen offences of shop theft when he appeared in custody at Coventry Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 10th October 2023.
Pearson was on Crown Court bail at the time of the offences.
Magistrates heard that the 43-year-old entered several retail premises in Rugby, where he loaded an empty carrier bag with meat and cheese before walking off without payment.
In total he stole £1,233.85 worth of goods from 14 different shops.
CCTV from one of the shops caught Pearson walking out with a bag full of stolen property and big smirk on his face.
Magistrates jailed Pearson for a total of 9 months.
PC Blakeman of the Rugby Patrol Investigations Unit said: "Rugby does not welcome shoplifting and I hope this is a lesson to those that think it's acceptable to do so.
"Pearson is a prolific shoplifter who has shown no remorse and a complete disregard for the justice system.
"It is not funny that the shops of this borough are suffering loss and toiling against thieves whilst the prices of goods for law abiding citizens are forced up as a result.
"Rugby Police will continue to bring offenders to justice. It’s about time Pearson changed his sense of humour, and we hope that this jail sentence will help Pearson reflect on his behaviour and break the cycle of stealing and dishonesty that he has clearly found himself in."
