Man Urinated on Peterborough Pub Worker When Challenged Over Minesweeping

A Peterborough man urinated on a member of pub staff when he was challenged for drinking the dregs left by customers.

Mohammed Fatah, 25, of no fixed abode, admitted assault by beating and exposure at a previous hearing.

He was sentenced at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 14th December 2023.

Exposure is an offence under section 66 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003. It has a maximum penalty of 26 weeks' custody and/or an unlimited fine on summary conviction; 2 years' custody on conviction on indictment.

Magistrates heard that Fatah was caught trying to finish left-over drinks - a popular student pastime known as minesweeping - in The College Arms public house on Broadway, Peterborough, on the evening of Thursday, 23rd November 2023.

The 25-year-old was in the glass washing area, normally off-limits to customers, when he was asked to leave the premises by a female member of staff.

Fatah refused, saying that he needed to use the toilet. He then exposed his penis and proceeded to urinate on the floor and shocked worker's leg. The woman tried to back away, but Fatah continued urinating as he moved towards her.

Customers helped to eject Fatah from the popular Wetherspoons boozer. He was arrested on Broadway a short time later.

Magistrates were of the opinion that Fatah's offences were so serious that only a custodial sentence was appropriate.

He was sentenced to 16 weeks' custody and ordered to pay £200 in compensation to the pub worker concerned.

Fatah was also made subject to the notification requirements of the sex offenders register for a period of 7 years.

PC Shauna Dwyer, of Cambridgeshire Constabulary, said: "This was a truly disgusting act by Fatah who had simply been asked to leave the pub due to his behaviour.

"It was only last month that he was in court and sentenced for assaulting a member of staff at Asda, so clearly has very little respect for those working in our local businesses.

"Due to his despicable actions, he has now found himself in prison for the rest of the year and on the sex offenders register after exposing himself in public."
