A horse has been killed and mutilated in a sickening attack in a Nottinghamshire field.
Alfie, a 16-year-old tri-coloured cob, was last seen alive and well when he was turned out into his field on the evening of Wednesday, 24th July 2024.
His mutilated body was found by his owners on the morning of Thursday, 25th July 2024.
Nottinghamshire Police is now appealing for information about the horrific attack, which took place at Owday Lane, Carlton-in-Lindrick, Worksop.
Chief Inspector Clive Collings said: "Although it's difficult to believe, all of the evidence shows that this was a sickening, heartless assault on a defenceless animal and I would urge anyone with information about what happened to get in contact with us as soon as possible.
"This is the epitome of a senseless and violence attack.
"Alfie's owner had been left distraught by his cruel death and wants justice for him."As part of our ongoing inquiries we're asking people in the area to check to see if they may have any recorded CCTV or doorbell camera footage which could help us, or if they recall seeing any suspicious activity between 7 pm on Wednesday and 10.30 am on Thursday.
"We are also warning horse owners in the area to be extra vigilant, given the appalling nature of this crime."
This is absolute barbarism. I pray that Alfie had a quick demise, although reading the circumstances it can't be guaranteed.
What sort of sick scumbag commits such a horrendous act?
Anyone who has any information is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 244 of 25th July 2024. Alternatively they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Godspeed to Nottinghamshire Police on finding the culprit and bringing them before the court. I cannot image the distress Alfie's owners must be going through.
