Phoebe Plummer: A Martyr to the Just Stop Oil Cause

Just Stop Oil pin-up Phoebe Plummer took part in a protest at Heathrow Airport this morning, in breach of her bail conditions and a High Court injunction.

Apologies for yet another Just Stop Oil article, but the group is ramping up its efforts to cause summer holiday chaos and disruption with a new stunt virtually every day.

Pink-haired university drop out Plummer was convicted of causing up to £10,000 worth of criminal damage to Van Gogh's Sunflowers painting just a few days ago. As a result of that conviction she was granted conditional bail until her sentencing at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, 27th September 2024. One of her conditions is not to have any paint in a public place.

This morning 22-year-old Plummer and 58-year-old Jane Touil attended Heathrow Airport and discharged fire extinguishers containing orange paint. Footage of the incident, uploaded on Just Stop Oil's social media channels, shows orange paint being sprayed over the floor, windows and information screens.

A High Court injunction granted on Tuesday, 9th July 2024 prohibits Just Stop Oil activists from entering, occupying or remaining on Heathrow Airport property without the prior consent of Heathrow Airport Limited.

It is now almost inevitable that Plummer will be put before the court for breaching her conditions. If the court finds the breach proved - and it isn't beyond the realms of possibility that it will be denied - then it is likely Plummer will be remanded in custody, as there are clearly no conditions the court can impose that will mitigate the risk of her reoffending. She quite clearly has zero regard for the orders of the court, which means custody is almost inevitable.

This is a situation entirely of Plummer's own making. She is well aware of the possible consequences of breaching her bail conditions, having previously made videos of herself doing just that. Despite her awareness of the situation I am sure Just Stop Oil will be quick to cry about the "unfairness" of her being "imprisoned without trial".

I am sure HHJ Chris Hehir, sentencing Plummer at the end of September, will take a particularly dim view of her antics whilst subject to bail. He has already indicated the prospect of a custodial sentence.

I am sure further action will follow in relation to this morning's damage and injunction breach.

Update (31/7/24): Plummer and Touil have appeared in court in relation to this matter.
