Huw Edwards Sentenced for Production of Indecent Images of Children

Disgraced BBC News at Ten anchor Huw Edwards has been sentenced for producing indecent images of children.

Edwards, 63, of Southwark, London, admitted three offences of producing indecent images of children when he appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 31st July 2024.

He was sentenced at the same court on Monday, 16th September 2024.

I gave a summary of Edwards' offences in my earlier article.

As previously mentioned, production of indecent images includes downloading them from the web. However, the relevant sentencing guideline specifically states that images produced in those circumstances, as opposed to "at source" with the child victim, should be sentenced in the same way as the offence of possession.

Senior District Judge Paul Goldspring, sentencing, told Edwards: "Perhaps it does not need saying but you are of previous good character, I accept positive exemplary behaviour having enjoyed a very successful career in the media...

"It is not an overstatement to say your long-earned reputation is in tatters."

You can read the full sentencing remarks here.

Edwards was sentenced to 6 months' custody suspended for 2 years, with the requirement that he completes the sex offender treatment programme and up to 25 days' rehabilitation activity.

He was also ordered to pay £128 surcharge and £3,000 towards prosecution costs.

DJ Goldspring declined to make a sexual harm prevention order, stating that he did not believe Edwards posed a risk of sexual harm to the wider public.

Having received a sentence of 6 months' custody or greater, Edwards is now subject to notification requirements.
