Katie Price on Driving Whilst Disqualified Charges

Former glamour model turned television personality Katie Price has a packed diary next week, with two appearances at the Magistrates' Court.

On the morning of Monday, 7th January 2019 she is listed to appear at Bromley Magistrates' Court, where she faces a single charge of being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle. We briefly discussed the circumstances surrounding that alleged offence in an earlier article.

On the morning of Wednesday, 9th January 2019 she is listed to appear at Crawley Magistrates' Court, where she faces charges of driving whilst disqualified and, by default, driving without insurance.

In February 2018, after committing a series of speeding offences, Price was disqualified from driving for a period of six months under the totting up rules.

In July 2018, a couple of weeks before the disqualification was due to expire, The Sun newspaper obtained photographs of Price driving two of her children the 24-mile journey home from Gatwick Airport.

The Sun put the evidence to Price, who duly went to the local police station to report herself for the offence.

On the face of it, it would appear that Price has a pretty dismal driving record.

We do not know the level of alcohol in her body when she was arrested for being drunk in charge, but she is likely to receive a fine and disqualification of at least 6-months if convicted of that offence.

The driving whilst disqualified, whilst a very serious matter, is not at the more severe end of the spectrum. In all likelihood, that offence will attract a low level community order and 6 penalty points.

Given that Price may well be disqualified at Bromley Magistrates on Monday, it's pretty unlikely Crawley Magistrates will impose an additional disqualification on Wednesday (although they could).

As for the driving without insurance matter, that may well attract no separate penalty.
