The social media menace known as Mizzy has been sentenced for stealing a woman's mobile phone.
Bacari-Bronze O'Garro, 19, was convicted of one offence of theft following a trial at Highbury Magistrates' Court on Monday, 29th April 2024.
He was sentenced at the same court on Thursday, 13th June 2024.
The circumstances of the offence were described in my previous article. In the briefest possible terms, he snatched the phone from the hand of a woman as he rode by on an e-bike.
The Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max, valued at around £1,000, was later recovered from bushes, O'Garro having lobbed it over a fence as he ran from police.
The victim, Ruby Hewitt, said the incident left her "stressed, anxious and quite scared".
O'Garro was only 17-years-old at the time of the offence, so I had surmised in my earlier article that he probably receive quite a lenient sentence reflective of his youth status at the time.
District Judge Michael Oliver took a firmer stance in sentencing, making the teenage father subject to a 12-month community order with the requirements that he completes 100 hours of unpaid work and up to 15 days of rehabilitation activity.
He was also ordered to pay £500 in compensation to Miss Hewitt.
Addressing O'Garro, the Judge said: "It was plainly your intention that the victim would not get her phone back, it’s just good fortune that those consequences did not happen."
