A Somerset man secretly recorded a woman using a leisure centre changing room.
Jack Robert Griffin, 25, of Church Street, Merriott, admitted two offences of voyeurism when he appeared recently at Welshpool Magistrates' Court.
Voyeurism is an offence under section 67 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003. It has a maximum sentence of 12 months' custody and/or an unlimited fine on summary conviction; 2 years' custody on conviction on indictment.
Magistrates heard that the victim was getting changed after a swimming session at the unnamed Powys leisure centre. Griffin positioned his phone in such a manner that it would record her in a state of undress.
Skye Connors, prosecuting, outlined the "disturbing set of facts".
"The female's breasts were exposed and she was clearly unaware during the recording," the prosecutor said.
Griffin was later confronted over the videos when they came to light. He admitted placing the phone in such a position so as to record the woman changing.
Police were informed and Griffin was arrested and subsequently charged with both offences.
Angus McWilliam, defending, requested that the sentencing hearing be held at a court more convenient to Griffin. Magistrates declined that request, given that the offence happened in Powys (and in the circumstances the convenience of everyone else is a higher priority).
Magistrates ordered the preparation of a pre-sentence report prior of Griffin's sentencing at Welshpool Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 2nd September 2025.
The 25-year-old was granted unconditional bail until that time.
